WU MENGCHUN
Wu Mengchun is a Buddhist, and his artwork is strongly influenced by his philosophical beliefs. Wu Mengchun spends much of his time alone, either meditating or painting ( which is a kind of solitary meditation for him). So it is no wonder that the figures within his works are almost exclusively Wu Mengchun himself.
Wu Mengchun says that he aims to portray a "moment" in people's reality. In his latest series, the figures are often showering or purifying themselves. They are nude, the most natural state of being. Is it a wonder that Wu Mengchun figures are in the midst of one of the most meditative aspects of our modern lives - taking a shower? For that is the time when people can really relax and release their cares and pressures. |
