HUNG LIU

Hung Liu is probably the most famous Chinese contemporary woman artist in North America. Hung Liu immigrated from China to the USA in 1984. And since then, Hung Liu paintings have been shown at and collected by many of the top museums and public collections in the United States. In 2004, Hung Liu brought her work to China for an exhibition in her motherland.

Hung Liu is filled with nostalgia towards China. Her paintings reflect the situation of China when she left it in the early 1980's, yet Hung Liu infuses her work with beautiful Chinese motifs, combining the glorious past of China - pointing to a more positive future. It is clear from her paintings that Hung Liu loves her motherland, despite the tragedies that she faced while living there.
